Died 25 Jan 1903
AGED - Citizen Died of Blood Poisoning - Joseph Adams died at his home 316 Bowman street at 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon after a six weeks illness from blood poisoning and gangrene. Six week ago the second toe on his right foot became sore and rapidly developed into blood poisoning and finally gangrene, ending with his death yesterday.
He was born in Ireland 78 years ago [abt 1825] and came to this country at the time of the War with Mexico. He first settled in Connecticut where he was married to Sarah Wier and came to this city and lived a few miles south on a farm. He afterwards moved to a farm in Iowa, from which state he enlisted and served in the civil war for 3 years. Several years
after his wife died he returned to Ireland on a visit with his relatives and there met and married Miss Susan Gourley. He returned to this country with her and moved to his farm in Iowa. They removed to this city shortly afterward where he had since resided. He leaves no children by either marriage. For some half dozen years since coming to this city he had been janitor of the United Presbyterian church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon from the house, conducted by Rev FD Findley.
